Biomass industry action plan unveiled

The Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (Might) has handed over the Malaysian Biomass Industry Action Plan 2020 to Ambassador and Head of the European Union Delegation to Malaysia Luc Vandebon, to mark the launch of the plan. Might president and chief executive officer Yusoff Sulaiman said the plan “aims to provide a concerted strategy and action plan in developing local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as key players in driving the Malaysian biomass industry towards realising higher value products from the country’s biomass resources.”

World’s second biomass refinery by end of 2016

Malaysia will have the world's second biomass refinery to convert biomass waste into usable products by the end of 2016. Work to build the multi-million ringgit facility in Johor is expected to begin at the end of next year. Currently, the only biomass refinery in the world is in Italy. Malaysian Green Technology Corp (GreenTech Malaysia) and Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to implement the Low Carbon Cities Framework and Assessment System (LCCF). Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili Thursday visited the newly incorporated biomass power plant in Seguntor operated by Seguntor Bioenergy Sdn Bhd. Ongkili was briefed on the power plant which generates 11.5MW of electricity through the combustion of biomass. Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Maximus Ongkili yesterday visited the biomass power plant in Seguntor operated by Seguntor Bioenergy Sdn Bhd which has incorporated a biogas power generation facility. Proposal to tax FiT income in Budget 2014

Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Malaysia has put in a proposal to the Treasury for income derived from the feed-in tariff (FiT) programme for solar photovoltaic installation to be made taxable under the country’s Budget 2014, scheduled to be tabled on Oct 25.
